Students began the week wrapping up their group presentations on "making the hydrosphere matter". Students then began to discuss water availability by generating a new set of guiding questions around whether or not we will run out of water by the year 2025. Students are currently answering their research questions and beginning to prepare their water availability arguments.
This week students diligently worked in groups to outline the best way to communicate that the "hydrosphere matters". Once an agreed upon plan was outlined, students created their final product - a poster, a video, or song lyrics. Students began their presentations on Friday and will continue on Monday.
We began the week completing the "Path Driver Universal Screening" which is a computer-based assessment in both reading and math. We then continued our research in which students worked to find meaningful connections between a personal topic of interest and the hydrosphere. We finished out the week discussing different strategies that are used to get the attention of others in relation to song lyrics, public service announcements, and issue posters. Students then began to apply these strategies as they create a final group challenge project in which they "make the hydrosphere matter".
Can you make the hydrosphere matter? This was the challenge given to my students this week in science class. Students generated questions they had about the hydrosphere (above & below) and conducted research to answer them. The next step in “making the hydrosphere matter” was for students to connect an area of personal interest to the hydrosphere. Students will continue making their connections into next week.
